Tex M.
I'm a 100% Service-Connected Disabled Combat Veteran who was exposed to Sarin, toxic smoke and ash from the entirety of the Kuwaiti Oil Fields burning, burn pits, depleted uranium round rods, unmitigated residuals from Agent Orange storage on Fort Campbell for so many years, unmitigated asbestos and that's just the exposures about which I know.
I deployed, at age 22, to the Persian Gulf in mid-1990 for Desert Shield and redeployed stateside in mid-1991, following Desert Storm.
My entire body changed; inside and out, including metabolism, shape, and overall health, including hormones.
I weighed about 128-132 pounds, had at most a 28" waist and my 2-mile run time in BDUs and boots in the sand in Saudi Arabia, upon my arrival, was 9m 14s... immediately following 120+ push-ups in 2 minutes and 120+ sit-ups in 2 minutes.
I was a sub-4-minute miler and a cross country runner off the sand and in running shoes.
What I wasn't was a gym rat, so I was NOT prepared for the actual weight of the gear and real combat loads.
I'm not joking when I say that my first injury occurred when I tried to ruck-up in-country for the first time, to head north to the Iraqi border with my team... because all of that weight easily exceeded my body weight. In fact, the weight of my ruck alone was at or exceeded my body weight.
I couldn't lift my ruck to sling it on, so I sat down in the sand and strapped it on, only to discover that I couldn't get up. I struggled to rock forward, tried rolling to my side and onto my stomach, but nothing worked.
It took two soldiers to pull me up and I'm not sure how I avoided having both arms dislocated at the shoulders.
Somewhere in my struggles, the beginning of my Diastasis Recti took place... as well as the pathway to Degenerative Disk Disease in my lower back.
Will power, mountain goat-legs and a strong core made it possible to balance the load and "walk" where I needed to go.
From that day forward, I started cross-training and when I ran PT for my Team, we cross-trained.
People did not use the base gyms much in those days and commanders were not happy with my PT deviation from The Norm, but since my Team had the highest AFPT scores on base and the best finish times on our Forced Marches of 100 miles in under 24 hours, they let it slide.
Our ruck marching added weight over time and utilized speed walking at a rate that passed runners, who eventually fell out.
So imagine the impact of the first Gulf War when I returned and suddenly struggled for a 15-minute mile pace and just barely passed my 2-mile run test... and then could barely walk for three days. I literally had to sit down on the steps and use my arms to get to my second floor quarters, because I couldn't get my knees to bend or handle the push through a step up.
Today, the issue of a full Diastasis Recti is not given the sense of importance that it deserves.
Patients are told they can no longer do sit-ups or crunches... because they risk herniation through the abdominal wall.
The aponeurotic tissue between the left and right vertical bands of abdominal muscles does not grow back.
That means that the contents of the abdomen constantly push out and spread those muscle bands.
It is my belief that this changes the body's sensory system, particularly in terms of feeling full... because the displacement allows greater expansion, which increases over time.
Coupled with changes to my immune system, metabolism and testosterone at that age, it's easy to see how the body's first favorite fat storage site, around the intestines, can exacerbate Diastasis Recti.
That's why I've tried many E-Stim devices over the decades.
I was familiar with their use in muscle pain and rehab, so using them on abs was a no-brainer.
However, as Jake mentioned, they didn't stimulate deep enough to do much.
They were great to use on the side to get fit abs looking extra buff, but they weren't actually producing an muscle on their own.
When The Biggest Loser hit television, the Body Bugg was used to measure calorie burn. The Body Bugg was the most accurate device ever produced for measuring calorie burn and it has never been beaten in accuracy, other than by full blown extremely expensive clinical testing.
Sadly, Jawbone made Body Bugg an offer that they couldn't refuse. Jawbone tried to incorporate the Body Bugg technology into their wrist bands and shut down "Body Bugg", so that they were completely useless.
More sadly, Jawbone failed and fell further behind the competition in measuring body metrics.
What I can say is that using those early ab stimulators literally burned zero extra calories, based on the Body Bugg.
Based on science and medical knowledge, I can say that Jake's claims about burning 500 calories in one session are reasonable and that if I could use my Body Bugg today, that I believe I could prove it.
My experience with ApeBorn is limited to two sessions, thus far.
My initial thoughts upon receiving my Full Body kit:
1) I wish there was a body chart with illustrations of all possible stim-pad placements.
2) This is awesome... the Ab Kit has a 3-way charging cord so I can simultaneously charge the 3 stimulators!
3) WTF?!?!??? I paid that much extra for the Full Body Kit and not only is there only a 2-way charging cable for the 4 stimulators... there is only ONE 2-way charging cable for charging FOUR stimulators.
Listen, it's not that I lack two additional charging cables so much as I lack enough charging cable outlets.
I've seen 4-way charging cables and judging by the rapid charge time on the stimulators, I don't think a fourth simulator would draw enough amperage to make charging an issue... but, in addition to my medical degree, I also have degrees in Electronics Engineering Technology and have built custom components and custom rockets with NASA for years... soooooo, I understand that maybe a fourth charging leg might push the usual 5.2 (I think) of a charging cable, even if each was only pulling 1.2 or 4.8 total, that's getting warm, but if they're more likely pulling 1.5 each, for a total of 6, then they're not going to trip a circuit breaker, but they will overheat that charging cable and possibly start a fire or at least damage the stimulators.
So the obvious question then was:
4) WTH didn't they include a second 2-way charging cable?!?!???
I had to wait to charge Full Body Stims 3 and 4, so I just didn't bother using 1 and 2 that day.
Petty but I went on with my Abs and Tri's and didn't have another 20 minutes to do quads and calves, and I didn't want to just do calves or quads.
I'm accustomed to testing products and services and writing published reviews on them, since 1980, so I wanted the stim use to be equal within each set. I could have numbered each stim, but I saw zero upside to paint penning my expensive little electronics stimulators. Doing so would still mean running the number 3 and 4 stims on their own one time in order to have equal usage for proper comparison over time.
I used all 7 stims at the same time today and will continue doing so.
5) Why don't the "instructions" tell me how often to charge, how many sessions I might get on a full charge or tell me that there's a light that will come on if there's not enough charge remaining for the next session, etc etc etc?!?????
So, I'm charging both kits today. The Abs was two sessions and I think it was fine since I'm starting on an intensity of 2... but I opted to charge the Full Body Kit with them today for the simplicity of an even playing field.
Which means that I'm still waiting to charge stims 3 and 4!
For the price and customer peace of mind, the kits should all come with adequate charging cables so that all charging can be done at the same time and none get forgotten.
As people age or deal with health issues that bother the brain and memory, like diabetes and Traumatic Brain Injury (due to concussions and high concussive force of heavy weapons and munitions... heading a soccer ball or playing football, etc), it's more important to keep things simple so that things get done and so that people don't get irritated and agitated, because they will 1-star in a blink and blame the stims (having forgotten that a pair of them were always failing to get charged because the person forgot that they still needed charging).
There's cost but then there's successful business strategy that drives people to a highly-rated product and away from cheaper knock-offs.
Also, based on California laws and recent lawsuits, I have some thoughts about protecting your sales model from lawsuits that might become the norm, depending on how the current ones go.
I'll add pictures at some point, but this is The Beginning of the journey and this story and pictures can wait for a side-by-side.
So far, aside from the aforementioned issues, I can feel the difference between ApeBorn and previous Ab Stims.
Although, I will saw....
6) The belts feel a bit awkward when trying to place and firmly secure them in place, by myself.
Contact and staying in place are important, so if there's someone else around, then I think many people will find that it feels better in tightness and contact when someone else places the pads for you.
And then, just sit or lie there listening to an Audible Book.
My muscles contract and my arms move on their own, because that's what happens when muscles flex and extend.
Moving around could displace the pads/belt and if you're moving against the efforts of the stimulator, then you're probably not going to get the desired effects of the stimulators.
Personally, I felt invigorated...
One might say...
Fully charged and ready to go!
Eugene
It looked stronger in the ad. It's kinda weak.
David
Not very strong can do max setting on all modes! The ones that you get for 20-30$ are stronger!
Esben
It seems like thereās a bad connection in the product, so it only works half the time
Kalae
I had a device like this, but this one is way better. Ape born, thank you for stepping your game up and changing the world of us men, God bless you guys.
Julia
I purchased the ab, and arm stimulators because as I age, Iām 67 years old, I am losing muscle mass. I need something that will help kickstart my ability to maintain the muscle mass I have left.
That being said, Iāve used them twice in the past 3 days. I like them so much that I purchased the glut, and thigh stimulators. I am looking forward to using them as well.
The only problem I have with them is the stimulator, not the pad, pops off of the arm straps if I move a certain way. My arms are quite thin. So, it could be because of that. Not a flat surface.
Dustin
Definitely worth. Can feel the difference right away.
Jason
So far, so good but the only complaint I have is the arm pads arenāt long enough
Jonn
Wow, really works well, out of the box, mode 1 level 6 20 minutes i could see and feel the contractions.
Angelina
The sensation is weak and it cocers a small area
Manolin
Great product, just as advertised.
Max
I used it for a week, It lacks power; you can barely feel the pulses, even when you set it to the highest level. Honestly, it was a poor choice.
Oliver
This product does not meet the performance or quality standards implied by its marketing. I paid $149 for a device positioned as superior to lower-cost EMS units, yet it performs worse than alternatives in the $30 range.
The design is poorly executed. The fastening system fails to maintain stable contact, resulting in inconsistent and uncomfortable electrical output. Instead of controlled muscle stimulation, the device produces erratic pulses that require repeated repositioning to function.
Marketing claims of superiority over cheaper devices are not supported by actual performance. Combined with low-quality accessories, this product does not provide fair value and appears materially misrepresented.
Deborah
It's does not sit evenly on abdomen if you have hips. Not strong like the videos claim
Cecil
It works far better than many i have tried.
Jennifer
I am so upset that the motor unit does not attach to the abs band. The arm inits I attached but it was challenging⦠they do NOT SNAP in easily and I am afraid to remove them from the bands. I would really like to exchange them for ones that easily attach and remove.
Raphael
Everything as it is described and more.. Best buy yet for me.
MR
Haven't had it long enough to have an opinion on it's effectiveness but the quality is great the only bad thing is that the bands for arms are too short, I don't have huge arms and I can barely fit the bands on so when my arms get bigger I won't be able to use the arm bands and those with big arms won't be able to fit the armbands from the outset.
Peter
Does not work very well, I cant feel any of the muscles contracting
Brandon
I really like the convenience and i can feel the soreness after using
Jason
Great product! High quality and works as stated!
Gary
Easy to put on and it stays in place during use.
John
I am not finding that the intensity is what is described in the advertising. I dont know if the leads are defective or if they are not placed correctly for the ab unit. The arm units work well though. But it was worth the try. I find out now after my purchase that the price has dropped. I would be happy had i paid a lttle less than what i did. Oh well we learn.
Stephen
Arm bands need to come in different sizes for men and women. Arm bands barely fit my arms.
bashawn
Where has this product been hiding all my life!! I can't wait to to start showing results.
Charles
Works extremely well
Ashley
Does not have enough power! Hardly can feel like its working
kiro
Got it working pretty good
J
As per the advertising, I have used those sticky pads and they just donāt work. This is like professional therapy grade style interfaces and itās impressively intense if you go too far so Iāve had to turn down the dial a couple of times. Also make sure you read the back of each one of the devices. The labels are on them for arms and abs. If you throw on an arm one thinking that itās the one youāll be like this isnāt working, but when you put the A1 on you will eat your words so they labeled it correctly just donāt be an overlooking human. Itās itās labeled right and donāt go in there thinking you know what youāre doing. Start low.
Rocco
Fast shipping and good quality
R
So far it seems to work better then other stimulators I've tried. It actually feels like it working and not just shocking the skin.
It also came quick with no problems
Drew
Great quality and does the trick added to a workout plan use it every night after my workout
Christopher
Wish the ab stimulator was more powerful
Leslie
Not worth the money! Weak current!
Jala-loka L.
Great product, but the week trial to the subscription starts straight away i was charged for another month before the product even arrived.
Abdul
Easy to set up, there is a guide on how to use the modes and settings. Within a week of using i can already see small differences.
Daniel
The ab simulator is a bit weak
Ahmad
I had this for less than one month
Abd one of the small devices or controller stop working .
JK Shop
Really works! Ypu can feel your muscles being worked out. Also helps with regulation.
Joseph
Very solid design, comfortable and boy does it give a workout!
Milton
Belt too small/ asked if they have an extender belt. They never responded. Stuck with something I cant use.
Linda
Im 53 and now have abs from using this product the past few month!!! 1000% recommend!
John
It's working but I have to wait to see the results.
Leo
At first i had trouble putting in the arm bands but i figured it out and felt it right away. It works as advertised.
Paul
Good energy. Ease as advertised. Could be better if it was not sized for little people. You need to either lengthen the belt 4 inches or use material that stretches. I severely doubt you advertise guy fits this size
Kenneth W.
The units work however the velcro work on the straps needs improvement. Some even when they are brand new, the velcro does stay connected.
Leon
It's EMS. I have had EMS in the past, it always annoyed me when it came to the gel pads. These don't have that.
The only downside I have found is getting the ones on my arms tight enough, but they definitely stimulate the muscles.
Jeffrey
Poor quality and actually painful to use
Joe W.
I am in the early stage and hope for great results!
Luis
loved it been using it and I'm starting to see the results
Jeffery
The arm bands are great.
The ab band is about 4 inches too small.
Trevor
Contractions from device could be stronger but I didn't use the water spray device so it could increase the intensity.
Brian M.
There was a spray bottle included with the kit, but there were no instructions on if you needed to wet the area under the pads or not.
Armisis
So far ok, will update when I try the other muscle areas. So far just base on the abdominal. Really weak response have to set it on level 19 on any of the pre set modes to actually feel any effect. The users manual is lacking real direction and the control module does not seem to allow for any customised settings to fit my body type. I am 5'9" at 155lbs. So Ive not got loads of fat I'm dealing with. Just trying to get some extra toning... I like not having the gooy horrible pads, so I will keep at it with this and try the others modules. Just was expecting to feel more at lower settings than I do
Les C.
I have tried to use the muscle stimulators with jell pads but they never get good contact with my skin I have a lot of body hair. But since with this one you wet the pads I can really feel the contractions!! I have only had I a few days and I can already feel stronger!!!
Victor
Works just as advertised!
Shirley
I have used other ems before. The jury is still out. Does not feel as if it is reaching deep enough, does not seem very powerful.
Giovanna
Exceeded my expectations! This is a serious piece of equipment for anyone looking to level up their fitness and recovery. The build quality is excellent, and the results are visible within just a few weeks of consistent use. Five stars!
Stuart
Very quick and easy service
Oscar
I expected to be stronger
Christopher
I got them just have trouble putting the ab thing on it and the arm thing on them.
Justin
I had some high hopes for this but should have known better. The stem is very weak and you can barely feel it. Even turned all the way up it wont make your muscles actually contract.
Ronald
System is weak. There are stronger ab belts available.
Harold
I liked how fast it got here. At first I thought it nothing but a bunch of big hype talk and paid people out there, but when I put it on wow it really does work so well. I am really impressped.
Mark S.
As a 69 year old man recovering from some serious health issues, I bought the stimulator not for vanity muscle growth but as an aid to my physical therapy.
I am pleased to say that it is doing exactly what I hoped it would. I only wish it came with better operating instructions.
Sophy
It not strong at all. And I fully charged the device too. A bit disappointed
Sonja
Product is exactly as described. Works like magic. I am so glad I pulled the trigger on this buy! Well worth it!!!
Mark
I've tried multiple versions of muscle stimulator and this is the rirst one that actually works as advertised
Rws
I feel it, its better than any of the others ones I've used so far
James
I was really disappointed with this product. I first used it about a week ago, and the muscle stimulation is weak at bestāmore like a minor āshockā than anything that actually feels effective for working the muscles.
Worse than that, the bands donāt seem to connect properly. When I tried using the armbands, it felt like they werenāt making a solid connection and I ended up getting shocked. It also irritated my skin and left it feeling like it was slightly burned. Now, after only a week, the stomach strap is doing the same thing.
Another issue: the spray bottle that came with it was empty and didnāt include any instructions or solution, so I have no idea what Iām even supposed to put in it or how itās meant to be used.
For $149.99, I consider this a complete waste of money. Honestly, youād be better off using a regular TENS unit and strapping it to whatever muscle youāre trying to stimulate. I canāt recommend this product at all.
Steve S.
Very pleased with the packaging, well presented. Fully charged the units and proceeded to use the kit.
Having used ab stimulators before, to be honest I think I might have a faulty ab belt!!
I am only getting a mild contraction on all levels. Iāve tried moving it around and ensuring proper contact to skin is made, but only getting mild ab contractions.
The arm kits work well with good hard contractions. The only major issue with the arm kits is that theyāre too short in length!! Really struggled to get them round the top of the arm.
Anthony K.
Waiting for a replacement product to replace a faulty item .
No response to my emails as to when the replacement will be shipped.
Harlan
The machine did not work.
Kevin
I've been really impressed with the quick results and how easy it is to use. I would def recommend to anyone
Robert S.
It stings real bad on low so I canāt even wear it
Kim D.
Itās to small fit around my 34ā waist
Curtis
this is a wonderful product. I love it.
Philip F.
This EMS is clearly better than the other one I had, but it too has its limits. Even on the lighter setting I don't get the contractions as advertised in the videos. Ive been using this EMS for 3 weeks now; it's a great massager, but the settings modes for weight loss just don't cut it even on the highest settings. Plus, the online advertising of before/after phots are deceptive.
